Concealer is a product used for extra coverage.
Normally, concealers have a foundation counterpart and generally the concealer will have more coverage than the foundation that goes with it.
Concealers are generally meant to be used AFTER foundation. You apply a thin layer of foundation and if you need more coverage for a blemish or under eye darkness, that’s where concealer comes in hand. It’ll have higher coverage and cover better in that area without having to add a whole added layer of foundation which can end up getting cakey.
Concealer can also be used on a bare face to just cover imperfections here and there.
Some people use concealer in a lighter shade to highlight or emphasize features like cheekbones. Some people also use a darker concealer to contour or define certain areas like the jawline, hollows of the cheeks etc. I personally don’t like to do this technique as concealers tend to have high coverage/thicker consistency and I’d rather use a lighter texture like a powder to highlight and contour.
Some concealers, like the long wearing type tend to work quite well as an eyeshadow base or even a lipstick base to help tone down the natural lip color and allow the lipstick to look more true-to-tube.
